Crises and Catastrophes
This page is just a sampler of some crises, catastrophes, and interesting problems that I would like to see used, or used more, in novels and films.
1. Invaders from Beyond Space - Invaders from outside our universe have featured in horror, though not in fantasy so much, and less in science fiction.
2. The Gray Goo Problem - Nanotechnology runs out of control, turning everything into gray stuff, and more nanobots. This could result from an accident, or the bots could be unleashed in a sinister Illuminati scheme to remake the world.
3. Do-Gooders Mess Up - Benevolent aliens, in this version of the idea, intend to help us and cause chaos. Social science literature and fiction do have some examples of this.
4. Aliens Bearing Gifts - Like 3, but the aliens DO NOT MEAN WELL! They could give us something deadly that looks useful, like killer nanobots that have innocent uses too. Supposedly, settlers gave the Indians blankets contaminated by small pox and yellow fever victims. Aliens might get up to similar tricks.
